Fit, a San Diego-based fitness center happily informs its customers that the Plunge Pool, one of the most renowned pools in San Diego is back in business thanks to the cooperation between Fit, Pacifica Enterprises, and the City of San Diego. The pool was renamed to The Plunge at Fit to better reflect this partnership. This remediation project started in early 2017, and was completed and opened on July 4th, 2019.
The pool was originally opened in 1925 as the largest saltwater swimming pool, it is situated within Belmont Park at Fit, in the heart of Mission Beach. The pool was converted to a freshwater pool in 1940 and it remained an important location for socializing and leisure. However, due to extensive damage, the pool was closed in 2014. The renewed pool has all-glass walls so visitors can enjoy the ocean views and a retractable roof to protect from the outside elements.
“The Plunge is an important historic sight in San Diego. We were very sad when it closed down a couple of years back. When we realized we had the opportunity to be a part of its revival, we jumped on the opportunity, said Scott Lutwak of Fit. He added: “The Plunge is now incorporated in our Mission Beach location and is currently open to members of Fit Mission Beach exclusively. However, on August 1st, we plan to open it to the general public, with a variety of classes, as well as the ability to host corporate events and birthday parties.
